History isn’t consigned to a dustbin in East Quogue. Names such as Halsey, Vail and Hallock refer not only to local streets but also to direct descendants of East Quogue’s founding families, who are still active in this community on the South Shore of Southampton Township, according to the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce. East Quogue is one of Long Island’s perfect little resort communities with historic homes, Main Street shops, ocean beaches, a Town boat ramp, bed and breakfasts and restaurants all packed into a very walk-able hamlet.
Settled in 1686, East Quogue was known as “Fourth Neck” and was a place of solitary farms and quiet salt marshes, creeks and bays until the arrival of the railroad in the late 1800s. That’s when East Quogue became a teeming summer resort with several hotels and inns, the grandest of which was the Walker House on Shinnecock Bay. Local sights include homes and shops from that era, antique replica street lights and clock, and the Hamlet Green bandstand, wishing pool and playground. Although many of the storefronts on Main Street are of an older style and architecture, the shops offer everything to suit a variety of your needs.
Take a drive through the community or a leisurely stroll down East Quogue’s Main Street. Come and enjoy one of the summer concerts under the stars at Hamlet Green.

Hamlet Green. Located on Main Street at the center of the community, with wide lawns, a bandstand, playground, wishing well and restrooms. Events include outdoor summer concerts and a crafts fair sponsored by community groups. Contact the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce for details.
